Perkedel is made from potato, mashed, mixed with eggs, spices and herbs, shaped into a flat-round shape then fried. It is widely available in most part of Indonesia even at street food stall ("Warteg" in Indonesian) as it is considered as a common people's food. But just don't expect to get it in upper middle class type of restaurants.

It is derived from Dutch word Frikadel . In Europe, it is made from fried minced meat, while in Indonesia it is made from potato, others sometime use sweet potato, cassava, or tofu instead of potato.

Perkedel is best consumed when it is just out of the frying pan, still warm with crisp skin but tender inside, as a side dish with Nasi Kuning or Pecel or can be consumed by itself as snack.
