Bacem is a traditional dish originated from Yogyakarta in Central Java, it is made from Tofu or Tempe boiled with water (some people use coconut water), herbs and palm sugar then fried (or grilled if preferred). It actually refers to cooking method to preserve food. The word “Bacem” itself means to soak with sugary or salty water. It commonly tastes sweet. Bacem can be eaten with warm plain rice or as side dish such as in Nasi Kuning.
